Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav tied the knot with his school friend Rachel Godinho in a low-key affair in Delhi on December 9. The wedding took place at Tejashwi’s sister Misa Bharti’s farmhouse in the national capital.
Tejashwi and Rachel know each other since school days. They both studied at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram. Reportedly, the two have been dating for the past six to seven years. However, none of them ever made their relationship public. The marriage came as a surprise for many.
The marriage was very low-key affair attended by only a few close friends and family members. Even Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not invited. Tejashwi’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar have known each other since the JP Movement of 1974.
When asked about his reaction on the wedding, Nitish Kumar congratulated the newly-wed couple. However, Kumar said he had heard about the wedding in “news media” only as he was not informed or invited.
Tejashwi Yadav, who served also served as deputy chief minister of Bihar under Nitish Kumar-led cabinet, has not yet made details about his wedding public.

The wedding has stroked some controversies due to inter-community nature. Rachel Godinho is a Christian.
Tejashwi’s maternal uncle and former Lok Sabha MP from Gopalganj Sadhu Yadav said: “He (Tejashwi Yadav) has demeaned the image of Lalu Prasad’s family after did the marriage with a girl belonging to another community. He doesn’t deserve to be called Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly.”
“He is doing arbitrariness in the family and party. He wants to rule us. We cannot allow him to do so. We will boycott him. We will teach him a lesson,” Sadhu Yadav said. Sadhu Yadav, brother of Tejashwi’s mother and former Bihar’s chief minister Rabri Devi, was not invited to the wedding ceremony.
WHO IS RACHEL GODINHO?
Rachel Godinho is a school friend of Tejashwi Yadav. She belongs to Christian community. Her father is a retired principal of a school in Delhi. Rachel’s father hails from Haryana’s Rewari district and owns a house in South Delhi’s New Friends Colony.
Rachel has worked in the civil aviation industry. However, there is not much information about her educational background. The marriage ceremony was conducted as per the Hindu tradition. However, there is no clarity on whether she will convert to Hinduism. However, as per some media report she might change her name as Rajshri or Rajeshwari.
